One of the things we appreciate about the holiday season is the abundance of foods. In every household and on every table, there is always an assortment of several delicious dishes. It can be hard to control the overwhelming urge to gobble down everything within sight. There is nothing wrong with indulging yourself in your favorite foods, as long as there is a healthy balance. To avoid overindulging yourself,

  • Don’t drink your calories. With juices and cocktails, it is easy to consume more than your daily calories or sugar. Switch to water instead.
  • Don’t go for seconds.
  • Eat a healthy snack before meals to curb your appetite.

Hosting a healthier holiday party.

If you are the host of any holiday party, here’s your chance to switch the status quo. Turn on your creative juices to replace the typical unhealthy dishes and desserts on holiday menus. For example, replace soda and juices with flavored or infused water and wow your guests with your new recipes. To host a healthier holiday party, you should

  • Cut dishes like brownies and pies into smaller portions.
  • If you need to add milk to a recipe, use non-fat or skim when possible.
  • Use as much raw, unmodified fruits and vegetables as you can.
  • Ensure there are other social activities at the party to distract people from eating too much.

With all the festivities and last-minute shopping to get things right, everyone’s workout plans dive. You cannot have a healthy and fit holiday without getting some intentional exercise. If you want to keep the holiday weight off, you will need to dial on your workouts. Here are some ways to keep up with your exercises this holiday.

  • Get an accountability buddy, preferably someone that is also interested in having a healthy and fit holiday.
  • If you cannot go to the gym, try home workouts.
  • Try to do some cardio daily, whether a brisk walk or a few reps of burpees.
  • Go for a walk before bed.
  • Create a reward system for not missing any exercise day.
