I’m sure you hear about thyroid every now and then. But do you know much about it? Certainly, you are here because you want to learn more. Don’t worry; I will share some of the important things you should know about thyroid glands.

The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland located below your Adam’s apple. Interestingly, it produces thyroid hormones, which travel to all parts of the body through the blood. And these hormones control several activities in your body, including; the frequency of your heartbeats and how fast your body burns calories.

However, as unpopular as the thyroid gland seems, its ailment could be life-threatening. And women are more prone to thyroid-related diseases than men.

Your thyroid gland will produce too much or too few hormones when you are suffering from thyroid disease. Sadly, this will trigger symptoms like the feeling of tiredness or restlessness, serious weight gain or weight loss, etc.

Signs of Thyroid-related Conditions

If you experience any of the following symptoms, you should go for a thyroid test immediately;

#1. High Heart Rate

Sometimes, when your heart rate work too fast, it could be a symptom of thyroid disease. Ordinarily, when your thyroid works too hard or produces too many hormones, it increases your blood pressure. And when this happens, your heart rate will elevate.

So, don’t work with any assumptions. Whenever you experience an unusual increase in your heart rate, don’t hesitate to go for a thyroid test.

#2. Tiredness

Tiredness is among the important things you should know about thyroid glands. Of course, it’s normal to be tired every now and then. But when it becomes excessive, it could be a sign of thyroid disease.

According to experts, when your heart isn’t functioning properly, you will be prone to exhaustion. And it’s often one of the earliest signs of thyroid disease. Therefore, when you sleep excessively or find it difficult to wake up, it could be a sign of trouble.

#3. Anxiety

Sometimes, anxiety feelings could be a sign of hyperthyroidism. It could trigger your anger easily, and you will even find it difficult to control your emotions.

If you experience this emotional outburst too frequently, it could be due to hormonal changes triggered by a thyroid disorder. Of course, other conditions could trigger anxiety. But don’t assume; go for a thyroid test.

#4. Weight Loss or Gain

Again, weight loss or gain is one of the important things you should know about thyroid glands and their disorder. Sometimes, when you start gaining excessive weight or losing weight without explanation, it could be a sign of thyroid.

For instance, excess weight gain is one of the signs of low-function thyroids. And this is because when the thyroid gland isn’t functioning optimally, it can’t burn enough calories to maintain a healthy weight.

Similarly, when your thyroid glands function too much, your metabolism will work too rapidly. And when this happens, you will lose weight rapidly. So, whenever you notice inextricable changes in your weight, seek medical attention immediately.

These are some of the symptoms of thyroid disorder. Again, don’t assume anything until you seek medical advice. Don’t forget that some of these symptoms could be signs of other ailments or conditions.
